Mau Forest Conflicts in Kenya

Kenya’s Standard reports on how environmental issues, high-level politics and ethnic concerns are merging to create another potential flashpoint in that country’s tenuous recovery process. The Mau Forest involves a complex interplay of tensions related to conservation and the country’s (indeed the region’s) environmental health, the prospects for putatively ethnic clashes over land, and tensions between local control and national governmental power.

The Mau forest must be conserved for posterity. Culprits who sold it to unsuspecting buyers should be brought to book. People like Hon.Isaac Ruto who is a among the prominent grabbers of the land should face the law instead of playing politics to save his skin. The Mau environmental fiasco is not a maasai- kipsigis conflict, but a national tragedy. Kenyans want the names of the grabbers published and shamed! We will be shocked to find out the names of prominent kipsigis politicians be listed.Shame on them for conning their own people.
